Press Release from Gulf Coast United Futbol Club

On November 16th, 2016, the Mississippi Soccer Association sent Gulf Coast United a notice that its status with the Mississippi Soccer Association (MSA) was currently in suspension.  The reason for the notice originated from an error that was included in a flyer in Jackson County concerning recreation programs in that county.  We want each of you to understand that this action by the MSA will in no way impact Gulf Coast United, nor will it have an impact on our players.

Gulf Coast United has maintained an associate membership with the MSA for the last six years to allow a handful of GCU teams to play in the state cup, and as a means of supporting Mississippi Soccer.  However, as a club, Gulf Coast United and most of the top clubs in our region and across the country register their players with a separate licensing body U.S. Club Soccer.  U.S. Club Soccer is the governing body for our league with all of the top teams from the Gulf region (GSPL) and sanctions all of the tournaments which our club routinely participates across Mississippi and the Gulf region.

In recent days, communication about what has occurred with MSA has circulated among individuals in Jackson County and along the Gulf Coast, including suggestions that the club and our players could be impacted by this decision.  Nothing could be farther from the truth.  Should that change at any time, we will be the first to let you know.

In response to the notice and subsequent conversations, GCU has elected to cancel its associate membership with the MSA.  While we would prefer to maintain a relationship with our state organization, until such time as we can have productive conversations with their board, the simplest thing to do is withdraw and continue doing business as usual--helping our young men and women learn the game of soccer and the virtues of teamwork, leadership and discipline they can use as they grow.

Please know our coaches and Board remain committed to doing what is best for our club and for your children. Should you have any questions, please feel free to email or call one of our Board members or coaches for more information.
