Gulf Coast Cup Dedicated to Julie and Jeff Parr

All teams will wear black armbands at our tournament this weekend in honor and memory of Julie and to show respect for the years of dedication that Jeff Parr had put into this club.

A little about Jeff and Julie Parr and what they have meant to Gulf Coast United...

For those of you who don't know Jeff Parr and his story, let me tell you a little about him. He was in the founding group that help to create Gulf Coast United Futbol Club so that our children would have a great place to play soccer; someplace that united all of the coast's best players under one banner so that when they went off to play Jackson teams, Birmingham teams, and all of the other tough clubs of the time, they did not get beat repeatedly to the point of embarrassment. His son was on teams where that happened over and over again and he knew there was a better solution.

So he, along with several others, got together to form a "United" coast club; and they were successful! He was the President that first year and continued in that roll until hurricane Katrina came along and left him with a slab! He eventually moved to Fairhope, Alabama, where he still lives, and resigned as president. He was asked to come back to take over that position again a few years later and he agreed. This time he did not even have any children playing for the club, but he dedicated hours and hours to this club because he still believed in the original mission statement.

My reason for telling you all of this is because you need to understand why this is important to the club and it's DOC's and Board Members. We want to dedicate this tournament to Julie and Jeff Parr and we wanted you to know why.

Please pray for Jeff and the family and remember to show respect to every team, player, coach and referee this weekend in honor of the Parr's and their dedication to soccer!

Sincerely,
Christine McCummins

November 15, 2007 - From the Directors Desk - What a start to the season!

We had our 5 older teams, u15g, u17g, u15b, u17b and u18b participating in the premiere league. Our younger teams have won tournaments this Fall in Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, and Florida. All of our teams have challenged themselves by competing against the top competition in the region and we look forward to pushing ourselves this winter and spring.

Our teams and players will be attending the following college showcase tournaments: Disney Showcase in Orlando, Tampa Sun Bowl, Dallas Cup, John Talley Showcase in Memphis, Vulcan Cup in Birmingham and the Mississippi Fire Spring Classic, along with our Gulf Coast Cup.

We know that it takes this type of challenging  enviroment to showcase our players to college coaches and also to help us move forward towards meeting our team and individual goals.

No Excuses!!
